Lucy Hurds, Hereford and South Herefordshire Parliamentary Candidate supports former Lib Dem MP Sir Bob Russell's comments;
“We need more young people to know the basics of First Aid - which will, no doubt, help save lives in the future.
“Research shows that most children will be confronted with a medical emergency in their early years, so it is important they have the skills to deal with these situations.
“While evidence from Norway and Seattle, where First Aid is taught in schools, shows people are more likely to survive a heart attack outside of hospital.
“By teaching these skills in schools we would have one million qualified First Aiders in a generation, which would reduce unnecessary visits to A&E and save countless lives.”
We the undersign call for:
1. The Department for Education to include first aid emergency life-skills in the national curriculum in primary and secondary schools through PSHE provision.
2. The Government to support schools in selecting first aid and emergency life-saving skills training providers and teaching resources according to their own curriculum.
